Prestige 316 11Mbps Router + Access Point link

Score 3/3
The Prestige 316 is ZyXEL’s entry into the wireless
Ethernet world. ZyXEL added wireless capabilities on its Prestige series routers
and gives us the 316. Like other ZyXEL products, the 316 runs on an operating system
 called
ZyNOS. Because it runs on ZyNOS, the 316 turns out to be a powerful product. Unfortunately
almost all of the advanced features are tucked away outside of the web interface.
What it does:
The 316 is a single port broadband router with wireless capabilities. This device
allows multiple computers in your home to access the Internet through your cable
or DSL modem at the same time (see NAT explanation). In addition, its built in natural
NAT firewall keeps people on the Internet from seeing your computer. Computers in
your home can be connected to the router with standard Ethernet or Wireless Ethernet.
Additionally, your wired and wireless computers can communicated with each other
to share printers, files, etc.

Installation:
Setup of the router is done with a light HTML wizard that is very easy to understand
and use. In addition, the router supports PPPoE for DSL Users, Mac Address spoofing
for AT&T Broadband, and domain name/host settings for @Home users.
Port Forwarding / DMZ support
DMZ/Exposed host is called default SUA in the ZyNOS world. In the SUA/NAT screen,
setting the default SUA to a particular LAP IP address is like putting that computer
directly on the Internet. This is often the only way to get advanced applications
like H.323 and other VoIP products to work correctly.
The port forwarding features include space for only 10 ports, none of them support
port range forwarding. In addition to setting port forwarding, a confusing trip
into the ZyWALL’s TELNET interface is needed to get your WEB and FTP servers exposed
to the outside world. The ZyWALL’s excellent security schema comes equipped with
some filters that must be modified and level of TCP/IP know how needed is probably
beyond most home users capabilities. This is probably the weakest point about this
router for the home network user.
