with broadband routers
If you have a cable
or DSL modem,
broadband routers are the simply the best way to share your home
internet connection between multiple computers. Broadband routers offer a great combination
of security, flexability,
and easy management. Routers use an internet sharing method
called NAT or network address transltion. NAT not only shares your
internet connection, it acts like a basic firewall keeping most hackers
out of your LAN.
Since a broadband router provides a firewall between
your network and the Internet, you can share files and printers between
your computers without worrying about complex security issues.
Broadband routers are known by other phrases:
cable modem router, dsl router, or broadband gateway. Don't be
confused, they almost always mean the same thing.
