(Q) Can I connect my printer dirctly to my network instead of having it connected though one of my computers?
(A) You need a 'print server'. May companies like Linksys and D-Link make external print servers that connect printers directly to your ethernet network. Other companies like HP make print serves that plug directly into some HP printers. Print servers need parallel or serial printers, they do not work with USB printers.
(Q) When I transfer files across the network, they become corrupted. There may also be some speed problems, trouble seeing other compurters, etc.
(A) Network cards often like to have their own IRQ. If they share an IRQ, strange problems can happen like corrupted files. See this IRQ sharing page for details
(Q) Is there an update available for Windows 98 networking?
(A) When Microsoft came out with Windows 98 SE, they made many networking enhancements. They made these available to 98 users via an update located here. Scroll down to the item labeled 'system update' and download it.
