Cable/dsl router with wired and wireless ethernet built in
Some broadband routers have both wired and wireless ethernet LAN connections.  In these routers, both networks are bridged together into a single network. The router also acts as a wireless access point for the wireless segment.  These routers are very versatile and like other broadband routers, they keep your local LAN traffic separate from your WAN internet traffic by acting as a firewall.

Re: Connecting PCs
I don't know if this will help you but...

I had a home network connected "MSHOME"
Two computer connected directly to the router and thus the internet. THey talked fine.
I had a laptop that connects wirelessly. IT could surf and check e-mail. I could not get them to talk to the other two computers. When I tried to View Workgroup Computers, it waited a long time and finally said I was not granted access.
I searched high and low on the internet....FINALLY I got this idea.

1) open the command prompt on each computer and type: IPCONFIG
then jot down the IP Addresses.
2) they will be something like AAA.BBB.C.XXX
If the AAA and BBB and CCC match on all the computers they SHOULD be able to see each other (they could NOT in my case)The XXX should be sequential numbers on each computer.
3) Now type PING and the IP Address of any other computer. If you get something like:
Reply from AAA.BBB.C.XXX: bytes=32 .....blah, blah blah,
this means that the computers can actually send and recieve data from each other.
4) All of the above means that there is NO PHYSICAL reason why it should not work...It means that it is a software configuration problem.

WHAT I DID:
I opened my NORTON Firewall and I specifically ALLOWED the network range from the lowest XXX to the highest XXX.

Still...nothing!

But wait!!!!!! I did NOT get an error message when trying to View The Workgroup Computers. Great, but still no other computers were visible.

I waited a few minutes and magically, one by one the computers started to appear!!!!

Voila! I got what I need. I could share files, print and everything.

so...
1) check that the IP are the same on each computer (with the exception of the last number)
2) ping each computer to make sure you can actually send and recieve data.
3) specifically grant access on the locked out computer to that IP range.
4) Be patient, they sho

Download problem
I recently purchased a new WiFi enabled laptop and Belkin Wireless G Router. Previously I was connected to Telewest Broadband via a USB connection from the modem (a "Cable/DSL" model suitable for use with the NTL/Telewest Cable service) to the networking port of my computer. I have now set up the router by connecting the networking port of my computer to the router with an ethernet cable and also connecting the router to the modem port with another ethernet cable. I could not set the router up with the CD Belkin provided - when it got to the communicating with router stage it kept saying 'Problem communicating with router', even though there quite clearly was a connection. After playing around with the router's set up page, I eventually was able to get my wireless connection working.

However, even though I can connect to the internet, I cannot complete any downloads. They start okay, but pause after a few seconds and don't resume. I cannot download files or get YouTube videos to play. When I connect directly to the modem via the ethernet cable, the download problem persists. But when I connect via the USB cable, the downloads work again. Does anybody know why this is or how I can correct this problem?

Thanks for your help,
Peter
