Sharing a broadband Internet connection using a cable/dsl router and a hub
Using a cable/dsl router to share your Internet connection simplifies security.  As shown below, the LAN is separated from the WAN (internet) by the router which acts as a firewall.  The example below shows a router that does not have an ethernet hub/switch built in.  If you purchase a router without enough ports for all your computers, an extra hub or switch can be connected easily.  Just run a standard ethernet cable from your hub/switch UPLINK port to your routers LAN port.

Router to Hub Configuration
I need to expand a network to include two new computers. Currently we have several computers connected to a broadband router. I need to run one of these connections via Cat5 into a separate part of the building, and then split the signal to two different computers at the end of the line. Do I simply run a Cat5 cable from one of the free ports on the broadband router to the remote location, then attach a hub and split from there to the two new computers? Or, is it more complicated than that? Thanks!
