HotLine,
Using the client software

Version: 1.85
Windows and Mac version available
To get started using hotline, download the
client from here ( www.hotlinesw.com) and install
it. The install will force you to choose a nickname but you can
always change it later in the options menu.
The primary hotline window contains icons that look
like this:
Pressing the second icon (the
world), will bring up a list of hotline servers that your computer is
currently aware of. The default list is not very big, so we will want to
tell the HotLine client about some of the Hotline server lists on the
Internet (called Hotline Trackers).
Open a web browser and connect to http://www.tracker-tracker.com/.
This site contains a list of hotline tracker servers. Click the ‘add
tracker’ button in the Servers window and add a new hotline ‘tracker’
from the list.
Connecting to a Hotline Server
Sometimes hotline servers will require you to use a
specific login and password. Simply double clicking on the server does not allow this. Click the site you want to connect to
from the server list, then click the ‘connect to server’ button. This will
allow you to specify a login and password.
Important, the status window.
The status window is very important in HotLine. It
tells you want files you are downloading and what sites you are connecting
to. Since HotLine downloads files in the background, you should monitor
this window to see file download progress.
WARNING: Like all file sharing communities,
HotLine is filled with ‘rascals’. Be sure your anti-virus software is up
to date before downloading anything from unknown Hotline web sites. If you
don’t have an anti-virus program you can download one free from
http://www.grisoft.com
