How toConfigure a Windows 2000 computer to be an
client for and ICS network
Now that you have
ICS running, it's time to configure your other computers on your home network.
Right click on the ‘My Network
Places’ icon on your desktop to bring up your Network and Dail-up
connections. From here right click on your LAN connection and select ‘
Properties’. Install TCP/IP and any other components that
you do not have from the following list:
-
Client for Microsoft Networks
-
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
-
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
-
NetBEUI
If you have other protocols installed like IPX
you may remove them – they are not needed.
Select TCP/IP and click the properties. On this
screen, you should select ‘Obtain an IP Address Automatically’ and ‘Obtain
DNS server address automatically’. Click OK and the computer ‘may’ ask you
to reboot.
Configuring Internet Explorer
(5.x)
First close all copies of
Internet Explorer. Next, right click on the Internet Explorer icon
on your
desktop and click
properties. Select the connections tab. If you can, select ‘never dial a
connection’. Next, click the LAN Settings tab and clear all check boxes
here. Your new configuration does not require a proxy server.
Finished!
